Oska Bright at Learning Disability Today, Islington, London / 9 December 2010
By Sarah Watson and Matthew Hellett
It took a long time to get to the Business Design Centre – we ended up having to get a taxi from St Pancras Train Station because there were too many people trying to get onto the tube!
When we arrived at the Learning Disability Today event, we spent some time setting up for our screenings. When things got going we went around to all of the stalls and everywhere with key rings and business cards, telling everyone about Oska Bright and where we were showing films at the back of the conference hall.
Everyone was very interested in what we were doing. Lots of people there said that their organisations were starting to support people with a learning disability to use digital cameras as part of their work. We are very excited by this! Matthew got lots of lovely things free from the stalls, like mince pies, free pens and pencils.
We got chatting to some nice people who are interested in making films, and in working with us. We hope to get lots more people sending in films for Oska Bright 2011 from these contacts.
We met Maureen from Northern Ireland, who worked with Andy and Richard doing Oska Bright over there in 2008. We hope we can go back to Belfast in 2012 – fingers crossed we raise enough money!
We had a swell day in London – it was simply lovely – especially the lovely people from Norwood giving us lots of doughnuts!
Thank you London – we will be back in 2011!
