The cartoonist Crippen has been a consistent contributor to Dao. Here is one of his cartoons used to illustrate the Social Model, which the Affirmative Model is derived from. It shows a man in a power wheelchair sitting next to a woman wearing dark glasses and holding a dog lead. They both look quizzically at a non-disabled man who is facing them as he says: 'We've removed the barriers for you but you're still tragic victims.' Behind him are two barriers, which have been broken down. One reads Attitudinal Barriers and the other reads Physical Barriers.
