Brazilian dancers arrive in Bournemouth next week bringing a touch a Brazilian sunshine as they dance their way around Dorset!

Diverse City welcome Brazilian dancers to Dorset for two weeks of performances across Dorset culminating in the performance of a lifetime in the Battle for the Winds: The Ceremony of the Winds and Final Battle on 28th July.

The inspirational learning disabled and non disabled dancers from Brazil (APAE and Estacao Dancar) arrive in the UK on Monday 16th July as part of the ‘Breathe’ project, a commission received by Diverse City from the Unlimited programme, part of the London 2012 Festival and Cultural Olympiad.

The Brazilian dancers will be performing an original piece called ‘Brasilierissimo’ with a strong tropical flavour in Wimborne’s Square, Victoria Education Centre, Oakmead College and at the Pavilion Dance, Bournemouth. The group will also attend and perform at a reception at the Civic Centre on Tues 17th July where Poole Forum will present their Bill of Rights for people with learning disabilities.

The highlight of the Brazilians trip will of course be performing with the cast of ‘Breathe’, as 64 disabled and non disabled performers take to Weymouth Beach to perform dance, circus and aerial work for the ‘Battle for the Winds’ a spectacular piece of outdoor theatre on 28th July.

The ‘Breathe’ project has been created by an inspirational team of disabled artists including leading disabled artist and Director Jamie Beddard, Canadian born and registered Blind, writer, Alex Bulmer and Dave Toole, a renowned and accomplished dancer with no legs.

Tony Horitz, Director of State of Play Arts and the BREATHE International Co-ordinator said: “It was my pleasure to work with the Brazilians out in the island of Florianopolis in May, along with the British and Canadian artists in our delegation. I am even more pleased to be welcoming them to Dorset! They are great advocates for learning disabled people everywhere.”
