Disabled Londoners are set to benefit from Shape Diamonds in 2012, a year which includes the Cultural Olympiad and Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Shape Diamonds is designed to support disabled people who face barriers when accessing cultural venues, enabling members to participate fully in the exciting calendar of arts and cultural events taking place in London in 2012.

Our programme for January, February and March has already been announced. Disabled people who join for free can enjoy events including Rock of Ages, the Camerata Salzburg Zurich International Concert Series and an exhibition of David Hockney’s work at the Royal Academy, as well as trips to Tate Britain, The Victoria and Albert Museum and Natural History Museum.

Shape Diamonds members will be met at venues, or a nearby public transport alternative if requested, by our trained volunteer Access Assistants, who can help our members feel more comfortable and confident in engaging with the arts.

There will be an evolving programme of events to get involved with and the size and variety of these events are organised to reflect the diverse interests of our members.  We work with galleries, museums, theatres, film and music venues to secure reduced priced tickets and to ensure access requirements are met for every outing.
‘When I telephone, I’m always greeted by pleasant and efficient members of staff.  Shape are aware of my access requirements and always book events and support me accordingly.  I’m really excited to get involved with the Shape Diamonds events, especially the specialist exhibitions at Victoria and Albert Museum, British Museum and Royal Academy and to attending more afternoon concerts!’

Those wishing to join Shape Diamonds should visit the Shape website at http://www.shapearts.org.uk/audiencesandtraining/shapediamonds.aspx

Shape Diamonds is funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
