Song for Tess

download MP3 of Song for Tess

All you bright eyed social workers
All you caring staff
All you dedicated ones
All you do is make me laugh
You look at me so hopefully as you outline each new scheme
Telling me how things have changed
Well I hate to destroy your dream
But you see I've heard it all before
A new initiative
Wide-open door
Where do you move onto
Where do you move on to
Would you even want to
When you're fifty-four
Raised in homes and institution
I soon learned how to curse
And earned behaviour therapy
To curb my small outbursts
Locked away inside my room
To reflect on my misdeeds
I realised you'd never meet
My not so special needs
You say that I'm not being fair
You've always done your best
But when I tried to challenge you
Who silenced my protest
Where do you move onto
Where do you move on to
Would you even want to
When you're fifty-four?
I've heard your philosophies
I've watched you come and go
And sometimes I just can't work out
What you're supposed to know
I've seen all the strategies
Applied strategically
But you don't have a plan to quell
The anger still in me
Cos you see etc.

Robbing Me Blind

download MP3 of Robbing Me Blind

What can I do with the space left to me
All the seconds, minutes, hours and days
Shall I sit here again and describe the pretty patterns
That appear on the wall as I gaze
All I hear is the humming of electricity
And maybe it's just in my mind
But when I think back to the way life used to be
I think somebody's robbing me blind
Robbing me blind
Robbing me blind
What can I do with a mind that finds itself
trapped the same four walls
How can I dodge all the the light and sound
From the world outside when it calls
I can try and let the thoughts run wild inside of me
And say it's just my body confined
But when I see the sun shine down on the morning
I think somebody's robbing me blind
Robbing me blind
Robbing me blind
What can I do with a blue and gold evening
When it's warm and it smells of the sea
How can I deal with my body that's itching
To hear and to feel and to see
You can ask me what is my disability
I'll say it's not how I'm defined
But when I want to walk on the beach at sunset
I think somebody's robbing me blind
Robbing me blind
Robbing me blind
What can I do with the sidelong glances
From people who knew me before
How can I convince them it's not so tragic
When inside I'm still feeling so raw
My head's boiling over with so many questions
The answers I may never find
And I wish I couldn't hear or see that someone somewhere
Is robbing me blind
Robbing me blind to fade

Planet of the Blind

download MP3 of Planet of the Blind

In the kingdom of the blind
The one-eyed man is king,
On the planet of the blind
I hear the one-eyed woman sing.
I'm neither fish nor fowl,
Not crippled but not right,
Shall I pin my colours to your mast
Or just go fly a kite.
In the Kingdom of the blind
You feel your way around
On the planet of the blind I can just navigate by sound.
Drag me through the streets
Whiz me through the town
Escalators send me up
And lifts just bring me down.
In the kingdom of the blind
They reign supreme in cars
On the planet of the blind
I hitch my wagon to the stars.
Lean on your big horn you fat bastard
Curse me across the road
The blind school never taught me
How to use the Green Cross Code.

I can taste the blues
I smell the light and shade
I soak up all the rainbow hues
Of everything you've made
Feel each caress and every bruise
Each time a note is played

In the kingdom of the blind
Appearance is the king
On the planet of the blind
what matters most is what you sing.
Music in the distance
Voices in my ear
Faces swim in front of me but I'm not really here
In the kingdom of the blind
I won't stay in my place
On the planet of the blind I finish
First in every race
Stomp around the world that you've mastered
Just don't tread on me
It's true that there are none so blind as
Those who will not see

In the kingdom of the blind
They smile and smile and smile
On the planet of the blind
I run for miles and miles and miles
I'm ambushing the fort
I'm battering the door
They think they've won the battle
But they haven't won the war
No they haven't won the war
No they haven't won the war!
